WATCHTOWER Guitarist Teams Up With LAMB OF GOD Drummer For 'Drum Nation Vol. 3' CD

April 1, 2006

Guitarist Ron Jarzombek (SPASTIC INK, WATCHTOWER) has announced that he will be holding a master class/clinic on Thursday, April 6 at The College Of The Mainland, 1200 Amburn Rd., in Texas City, TX, located halfway between Houston and Galveston.

"I don't know yet what the exact format will be," Ron said. "It could be more of a performance, lecture or Q&A — probably a mixture of all the above. I've got quite a few things worked up, including some SPASTIC INK stuff, tunes from my latest solo CD, 'Solitarily Speaking of Theoretical Confinement', and a few songs from my brand new BLOTTED SCIENCE project using the Circle Of 12 tones writing system. This will be my first ever clinic so it should be an adventure for all of us!"

In other news, Jarzombek recently teamed up with LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler for a one-off studio collaboration, set for inclusion on Magna Carta's upcoming "Drum Nation Vol. 3" compilation. "A while back, Chris asked me if I would help him write and record a song and I was happy to oblige," Ron said. "We finished everything a couple of weeks ago and it came out really cool. We're calling it 'The Near Dominance of 4 Against 5' — it's SPASTIC LAMB all the way! This sort of makes up for not being able to work with Chris on the BLOTTED SCIENCE album as had been planned originally. Can't wait for you all to hear our lil' ditty!"

Up next for the guitarist, following the completion of the BLOTTED SCIENCE album, will be the first in a planned series of DVDs, tentatively titled "Theoretically Speaking". "I will not be covering any typical or cliche 'guitar instructional DVD' drills, like how to play 3-, 4- and 5-string arpeggios, or how to play pentatonic scales in several neck positions," Ron revealed. "Patterns like that may appear in songs and solos somewhere but they will be in the context of something else. Plus, I'm not going to run over what has been done to death in other guitar videos. Instead it will focus on the progressive/technical aspect of writing and playing. I plan on covering my note abuse with 12-tone, and multiple 12-tone rows, note abuse in typical common music theory, various timing explanations and examples, loads of theoretical approaches, including writing tools such as the 'Circle of 12 Tones', the 'A/B switch', the 'chromatic alphabet', 'floating parallels', writing with Morse code and phone numbers, etc.. Plus, I'll feature solos and rhythms, with examples and insight for material from both SPASTIC INK CDs, 'Solitarily Speaking...', and the upcoming BLOTTED SCIENCE'The Machinations Of Dementia' CD."

Ron Jarzombek talks in-depth about BLOTTED SCIENCE, also featuring CANNIBAL CORPSE bassist Alex Webster and former HATE ETERNAL drummer Derek Roddy, as part of a four-page feature in the January '06 issue of Metal Maniacs magazine. A full transcript of the interview, conducted by long-time contributing writer Matt Johnsen, can be viewed at this location.
